Salad Spinner Spin Art

March 29, 2020

Here’s a fun process art activity to do with the kiddos using paper, paint and a salad spinner. One of the best parts about this lesson is the mess stays contained making for easy clean-up!⁣

HOW TO:⁣
1️⃣Trace the salad spinner basket onto a piece of paper (card stock if you have it) and cut out the circle. ⁣
2️⃣Squirt several different colors of paint close to the center of the circle. Try quarter-sized blobs or squirt the paint into a spiral for the best effect. ⁣
3️⃣Put the lid on the salad spinner and spin it really fast! ⁣
4️⃣Take it off to dry or repeat steps 2 and 3 for a cool layered effect. ⁣

MORE LEARNING: ⁣
⏺Ask “why do you think the paint splatters away from center?” Your little one probably won’t really understand physics or centrifugal force, but asking those types of questions promote scientific observation and inquiry. ⁣
⏺Ask “Did any colors mix together? What colors did they make?” ⁣
⏺After the spin art paintings dry you can use a big shape hole punch or scissors to cut out shapes... I’m thinking spin art Easter Eggs might be pretty cool!⁣
